pSCHENECTADY — Clarkson University now has a campus in the capital region due to its merger with Union Graduate College in Schenectady./ppClarkson University celebrated the grand opening of its new capital region campus on Feb. 22./pp“There is a golden opportunity for New York state, and the capital region in particular, to really become the gem of the nation’s higher education institutions,” said Clarkson University President Tony G. Collins. “We have such an array of talented institutions of higher education. And frankly, I see that we can be a magnet that will attract talent not just across the nation, but around the world.”/ppThe merger between the two higher education institutions was approved by the state on July 19, 2015, and officially took place on Feb. 1, 2016./ppThose present at the grand opening included Rep. Paul Tonko, D-Amsterdam, Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara, several administrators and 400 students./ppThe ceremony took place adjacent to the capital region campus at 80 Nott Terrace, Schenectady./p
