Police: Woman choked boyfriend unconscious, set his shirt on fire, drove drunk

pWATERTOWN — City police charged a woman with multiple offenses after she allegedly knocked out her boyfriend, set his shirt on fire and drove while intoxicated./ppPolice said Barbara L. Getman, 39, of 217 S. Pleasant St., punched Gregory M. Noonan in the face and put him in a headlock until he became unconscious./ppMs. Getman was then accused of spraying Mr. Noonan’s shirt with a flammable perfume and lighting the shirt on fire./ppAt some point during the incident on Tuesday afternoon, Ms. Getman was accused of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Her blood alcohol content was listed at 0.19 percent. Under state law, a BAC of 0.08 percent is considered legal proof of intoxication. Aggravated DWI is charged when a motorist’s BAC is measured at 0.18 percent or higher./ppShe was also accused of yelling at Mr. Noonan on South Indiana Avenue, despite orders to stop./ppMs. Getman was charged at her residence at 11:52 p.m. Tuesday with second-degree harassment and strangulation, fifth-degree arson, first-degree reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct and aggravated DWI./ppShe was held in police custody pending an appearance in City Court./ppMr. Noonan, who did not suffer serious injury, was granted a stay-away order from Ms. Getman./p
