Croghan couple given drug charges after traffic stop

CROGHAN — Methamphetamine charges were levied against a town couple after a traffic stop led to a search of the vehicle with the owner’s consent.

Patricia L. O’Donnell, 33, and David A. Baxter, 50, both of State Route 812, were each charged with felony third-degree unlawful manufacturing of methamphetamine and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor.

Ms. O’Donnell was additionally charged with felony driving while her ability was impaired by drugs.

The couple was stopped on Route 812 in the town of New Bremen at about 5 p.m. on Friday, the Lewis County Sheriff’s Report said.

After Ms. O’Donnell gave permission for authorities to search her vehicle, they allegedly found an unspecified small quantity of methamphetamine and materials “intended to be used” to make the drug.

She was evaluated by a drug recognition expert at the Public Safety Building to determine if she was driving under the influence.

After arraignment in the New Bremen Town Court, Ms. O’Donnell was held in the county jail on $500 cash bail while Mr. Baxter was jailed on a state parole warrant.

Mr. Baxter has been convicted of multiple felonies in the past.

Sheriff’s deputies were assisted by the county Drug Task Force and Kafline’s towing.
