HAMMOND — A Hammond man was charged by state police May 2 with felony third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
Matthew P. Martin, 22, of 54 Oak Point Road, was charged after state troopers found, on April 28 at his residence, an AR-15 semiautomatic rifle with the capacity for a detachable magazine. Troopers also found a telescoping stock, pistol grip and muzzle compensater, making the weapon illegal to possess.
Mr. Martin admitted during a background check for his pistol permit that he altered the weapons, prompting the search.
Mr. Martin was arraigned in Ogdensburg City Court and released on his own recognizance.
