pLOWVILLE — Lewis County has developed a new set of logos to provide a uniform look for correspondence from county employees./pp“We’re one county,” County Manager Elizabeth Swearingin said. “We have to look like one county.”/ppMrs. Swearingin said that since joining the county in 2014, she had noticed that business cards, emails and other correspondence from various county departments were quite varied./ppSo, early last year, she established a committee to look over what was being used and ultimately rectify that situation./pp“They went and collected everything, and I believe they had 50 different business cards,” Mrs. Swearingin said./ppCommittee member Mary Jo Burkhard, the county’s director of probation, said the group began meeting last February, and the project ended up essentially taking the rest of the year to complete./pp“We just had a whole bunch of things we looked at,” she said./ppThe final logos stemmed from “a collective effort” of the six-member group, Mrs. Burkhard said./ppCommittee members Susan Lyndaker and Charlene Berrus, account clerks in the solid waste and highway departments, said the group would meet monthly, then each member would have individual assignments prior to the following month’s session./ppThe group utilized local graphic designer Ashley Peebles to help create the business card logo and Coughlin Printing for the one used in email signatures, but business cards are all being printed in-house, they said./ppOther members of the committee were Information Technology Director Adam Zehr, Melody Vance from the county attorney’s office and Lisa Hetzner from the Department of Social Services./ppA logo incorporating the geographic shape of Lewis County is being used on business cards, while the one used at the bottom of county emails resembles the county office building on North State Street. Both logos also include the official county seal, and that seal is also being used atop mailed and faxed correspondence./pp“I think it’s been very well received,” Mrs. Swearingin said./ppBusiness cards also have a QR code on the back that, when scanned by a smartphone with a QR reader, will directly access the county’s website: www.lewiscountyny.org./ppAnd, with more uniform logos now in place, the county manager is looking to improve that web presence./pp“The next thing we’re going to be doing this year is redesigning our website,” she said./ppMrs. Swearingin said the site could use some work to make it better organized and easier to use./p
